Visualise your roadmap with the new Epics screen!

We’re happy to announce that the Epics screen is now available for Trello users in addition to Jira and Pivotal Tracker users! It provides a quick overview to the progress of your epics. Epics are a great way to organise and track your work towards some bigger goal. If you’re new to epics, here’s a good tutorial to learn more.
Epics are “natively” supported in Jira and Pivotal Tracker. To get epics support in your Trello boards, you can use our free Epic Cards Power-Up.
Once you have set up epics in your board, you’ll see a progress of them in the new Epics screen. In addition, you can use them for grouping and filtering of data throughout your dashboard, including custom charts.
The Epics screen shows the progress of your epics as progress bars.
The UI is divided in three columns. The name of the epic is displayed on the left column. These are the epics you’ve created in your task management tool, or in case of Trello, via the Epic Cards Power-Up.
The middle column shows progress of an epic as a progress bar. The percentage is the number of tasks or points completed out of all the work assigned to that epic.
The rightmost column shows the number of tasks in different states. In Jira and Pivotal Tracker you’ll also see the number of tasks that are currently blocked by some other task. The numbers on the rightmost column are clickable and they reveal the individual tasks behind the numbers.
In the screen settings you can select the unit, sorting order, and the metrics shown in the rightmost column:
You can aggregate data from multiple underlying boards into this screen under the Sources tab. To get full overview of the status of your epics, you should aggregate data from all boards that contain tasks assigned to your epics.
Grouping and filtering by epic
Epics are also available in the quick menus so you can use them for grouping data in the charts. As soon as you have epic data available, you’ll see the option to group data by epic:
Filtering by epic is available in all screens. To filter data by epic, select Adjust the filter from the main menu and select the epics under the property tab:
Once you've made your selections, click View to see the filtered chart. To share a filter with other users, click Apply for all users. That makes the filtered view as the default setting for that chart for all users.
How to get started with epics?
Start by setting up some epics for your board. Here’s a tutorial about organising work with epics in Jira, and in Pivotal Tracker. For Trello, you can start by installing the our free add-on from the Trello Power-Ups directory. To learn more about the Power-Up check out our blog post.
The new epics screen is immediately available for all Jira, Trello, and Pivotal Tracker users. To enable it in your existing dashboard, click Dashboard settings from the main menu and select Epics from the list of available screens under the Dashboard tab.
