Assigning estimates to tasks

Estimates can be used to represent the effort (or time) required to complete a task. You don't need to specify a unit, it's just a number associated with a task. Screenful will read that number and use it as a measure throughout the dashboard.

There are two ways you can assign estimates such as story points for tasks. You can either insert them in the parenthesis as a prefix to the task name, or you can use custom fields.

Assigning estimates using a custom field

You can use a Number or Drop down type custom field for providing an estimate for a task. Learn how to set estimates using custom field

Screenful will automatically import your custom fields and make them available in the Unit field in the chart settings.

Once you select a custom field as unit it will be used as a metric in the reports.

Notice that if your custom field doesn’t appear in the unit menu, it means that the field is not a Number field. You need to map it to Number field before you can use it.

Assigning estimates as a prefix to the task name

If you don't want to use custom fields, an alternative way to set estimates is by inserting a number in the parenthesis as a prefix to the task name.

For example

Means that the task is estimated to be size of 5. You can also use decimals e.g.

The default value is zero if no estimate is given.

Once you have estimates in place, you can choose to use estimates instead of task count as the Unit in the chart settings.
