Announcing Card Size Power-Up: Assign estimates to Trello cards 🚀

May 30, 2019

Card Size is a free Power-Up by Screenful that allows you to set weights (e.g. hours or story points) to your cards to estimate how much work each card requires. The estimate is shown in the card front. It’s a simple board utility that is free and runs entirely within the Trello UI.

After enabling this Power-Up from the Power-Up directory, you can start assigning estimates to cards by clicking Card Size at the right side of a card. An input window opens that allows you to enter a number:

If you like to track how much work is done so far, you can also enter the Spent value. The Remaining work is automatically calculated and you can display it either on the front of the card, or at the back of the card (or both).

Select what is shown in the card front and back

You can select in the settings how the data is shown in your cards:

Depending on your settings, the estimate, spent, remaining - or any combination of them - are shown in the front of the card, and in the back of the card.

See totals per list, assignee or label

When you open the Card Size menu, you'll see a list of assignees with the total amount of work assigned to them. Alternatively, you can choose to view totals per label or list.

Alternatively, you can choose to view totals per assignee to see how much work is assigned to each team member. Here you have it! The minimum viable resourcing for Trello 🙃

To start setting estimates, add the Card Size Power-Up directly to your board using this link. It’s free and it doesn’t require any registration or authorisation!

Summary

Previously, if you wanted to assign estimates to cards, you either had to use a custom field, or enter the estimate in the parenthesis to the task name. Now you have a more convenient (and feature rich) way for estimating cards. If you are a user of our dashboard product, you can have your estimates used in any of the charts in your dashboard, and use them in custom charts.
